After a tedious nine day inspection from Air Mobility Command inspectors, the 22nd Air Refueling Wing was rated an overall "Satisfactory" for the unit compliance inspection, conducted Feb. 22 to March 2.

At the UCI out-brief held at the Robert J. Dole center ballroom here March 2, the 22nd ARW commander addressed Team McConnell on the wing's ratings and highlighted exceptional performers for the inspection.

"I thought the team performed great," said Col. James Crowhurst, 22nd wing commander. "The inspectors reported that McConnell is a highly-motivated, well-lead team."

Hearing this feedback, coupled with the inspectors' accolades of Team McConnell's positive attitudes, the colonel said the news was very meaningful to him because he personally sees the amazing work Airmen here do every day.

In addition to an increased mission tempo and facilitating short-notice deployments during the inspection week, the wing's primary UCI coordinator also echoed the commander's positive remarks on Team McConnell's hard work during the UCI.

"Team McConnell did an outstanding job," said Maj. Jeff Mrazik, 22nd ARW chief of wing inspections. "Everyone knew their mission and executed it, picking up the pace and going the extra mile whenever it was necessary. Our team also did a great job hosting almost 200 inspectors - that in itself was a lot of hard work."

Inspectors graded McConnell squadrons, flights and agencies on their compliance with executive orders, Department of Defense directives, Air Force and major command instructions and looked at more than 1,100 checklist items to include an emergency management inspection, Feb. 24.

"During the EMI, the inspectors were especially impressed by the teamwork, communication, and energy we displayed during a very challenging scenario," said Major Mrazik.

The major said that one of the highlights the inspectors found notable during the EMI was the strong partnership the 22nd ARW has with its Total Force components here, the 931st Air Refueling Group, Air Force Reserve and the 184th Intelligence Wing, Kan. Air National Guard.

By major command UCI definition, McConnell's overall grade of satisfactory operational performance meets mission requirements. Based on the results, the procedures and activities are executed in an effective and competent matter here. McConnell resources and programs are efficiently managed.

Results from the inspectors' findings were announced on a five-tier scale: Outstanding, Excellent, Satisfactory, Marginal and Unsatisfactory. No unit received an unsatisfactory. Out of 31 major graded areas, McConnell received 15 excellent ratings, 15 satisfactory ratings and one marginal rating.
