Guest speaker visits McConnell
Dr. J.A. Sheppard, a professor from Southwestern College, Wichita, speaks to Team McConnell members June 22 about religion and the history of the East-West divide. He cleared up general misconceptions about the medieval crusades and offered a few observations about the current conflict in the Middle East in light of the crusades. He contrasted the crusades with the fighting of a defensive war against territory against modern day struggles in sects of fundamentalist Islam that shows aggression toward democracy which is fights over philosophy. Dr. Sheppard spoke to McConnell members as part of the education center’s Guest Speaker Series which is open to all McConnell personnel and will feature speakers over the next three months from different universities and learning institutions around Wichita. The next speaker in the series is Dr. Jean-Gabriel Jolivet, from Southwestern College, whose topic will be the History of Insurgencies and Post Conflict Operations. The presentation is scheduled for July 27 at the base theater. (Photo by Airman 1st Class Jessica Lockoski)
