The base tax center is providing a free tax-filing service for military members and their families, retirees and civilians on base from Feb. 1 to April 15.

To use the service, people can call or walk in to the center to schedule an appointment.

"We are here to make things easier," said Teresa Lybarger, McConnell Tax Center coordinator. "We take a lot of time with our clients to go through everything so we do not miss anything. We give them peace of mind."

Since the opening of the tax center, the team has been helping 40 to 45 members of Team McConnell a day. Each person that comes into the tax center should be confident their taxes are in good hands because the staff is trained on service member benefits.

The team consists of Airmen and contractors who volunteer to handle advanced military personnel-related tax inquiries after attending a week-long training.

Military personnel can often times find themselves in difficult situations due to how different each scenario may be. However, the tax center knows just what to do.

"The service they just provide us is something most places can't do," said Charlotte Redden, a retired master sergeant's spouse. "My husband is in a home, my daughter is in college and my son has special-needs. Trying to weed through that is almost impossible but they just did it, because they understand all that."

The tax center can inform spouses of deployed members the list of documents needed to complete the forms.

The tax center is open to members of Team McConnell from Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., until April 15, in Bldg. 750.
