Three senior NCOs from McConnell Air Force Base volunteered to help children run through an obstacle course at Wichita Head Start, Early Head Start and Child Start Green Eggs and Ham Day at the Beech Activity Center in Wichita, Kansas, March 11.

Senior Master Sgt. Randy Simmons, 22nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron unit supervisor, Master Sgt. Chris Vaughan 22nd AMS production superintendent, and Master Sgt. Erique Diggs, 22nd AMS production superintendent, helped more than 150 children ages 3-5 complete a Dr. Seuss themed obstacle course.

"The community does a lot for us," said Simmons. "What better way to give back than helping develop these kids!"

The obstacle course was just one of more than 10  activities offered to the children. Each activity is modeled after a different Dr. Seuss book in keeping with the Green Eggs and Ham theme of the event.

"I love seeing the expressions on the children's faces when they walk in," said Debbie Boldea, Headstart risk management specialist. "Even years later they never forget it."

" We felt it was important to help get these kids excited about literacy," said Vaughan. " This event focuses on developing future generations to be well educated leaders and we are definitely in support of that."
