The McConnell Air Force Base Chapel has moved from its permanent home in Building 510 to a variety of locations while the Chapel undergoes a six-month renovation.

The Chapel's heating, ventilation and air condition system will be replaced during the renovation, said MSgt Jennifer Abel, 22nd Air Refueling Wing Chapel Operations Superintendent. The building will also receive new carpet, paint and a sound system.

The chapel complex will be out of commission for several months, but the services offered will still be readily available.

"The Chapel's still open for business," Abel said. "Even though we're in transition it will be for the best. If you need anything, we are still here for you."

The Chapel staff has relocated to Building 795, while Saturday and Sunday services are now held in the base theater. Sunday school classes will be at the Robert J Dole Community Center. The chaplains are using their satellite offices located at various units around base.

The move itself took three weeks and Chap. (Maj.) Patrick Knoester, 22nd Air Refueling Wing chaplain, said without volunteers to help they would still be moving. For three weeks straight, they had people stepping up and helping with the move.

"There's an old saying that many hands make lighter the work," Knoester said. "The base and community really rallied around us."
