Safety office seeks new slogan Published Sept. 12, 2013 By Airman 1st Class John Linzmeier 22nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- The 22 Air Refueling Wing Safety office will conduct a wing-wide traffic safety slogan contest between September 16, and 29. Active duty, guard and reserve service members and Department of Defense civilians are eligible to submit their ideas for a new traffic safety slogan focused on "Inattentive Driving." The winner will have their slogan displayed on five billboards across the greater Wichita area from November 25 to December 24 in addition to receiving a 22 ARW Commander Coin and a one-day pass off of work. "Hopefully, the campaign will raise traffic safety awareness for base personnel, their dependents, and the local civilian population." said Technical Sergeant Wayne Herold, 22 ARW Ground Safety Technician. The contest is part of a larger public service awareness campaign to remind both military and civilian personnel to stay focused when operating their car, truck, or motorcycle to avoid becoming a traffic related statistic. Unfortunately, the Air Force experienced twenty-one fatalities between May 25th and September 8th, of which sixteen were traffic related. "We are losing more and more Airmen to off-duty traffic related accidents than to on-duty combat operations. This statistic is why we need to refocus our efforts here at home with respect to traffic safety." said Mr. Robert Clapp, 22 ARW Ground Safety Manager. Submissions to the Traffic Safety Slogan Contest may be emailed to 22arw.safetycontest@us.af.mil. For more information, call the safety office at (316) 759-3218.
