McConnell welcomes WWII veterans
Team McConnell Members welcome World War II veterans after a trip to Washington, D.C. April 22, 2011, Wichita, Kan. A total of 185 veterans and guardians from the Central Prairie Honor Flight regional hub were greeted by more than 250 people including active duty, Guard and Reserve military members, American Legion Riders and local Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps members. The Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices. McConnell children make 'trashy' art
Team McConnell children’s artwork sits on a table outside the Robert J. Dole Community Center Ballroom April 22, 2011, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan. The children celebrated Earth Day 2011 by participating in a “Trashy Art Contest,” where all entries had to be made from at least 75 percent recyclable materials or items that would normally be thrown away. This event was part of the Live Green Program, which encourages people to reduce their carbon footprint, reuse the resources available and recycle. Air Force bases worldwide participated in a variety of Earth Day observances including beach, stream and base clean-ups, reusable bag and energy-efficient light bulb giveaways, art and writing contests and educational fairs.
