In addition to using line trucks to repair elevated electrical systems, through specialized technical training, electrical systems Airmen are able to climb poles up to 40 feet using gaffs. Members from the 22nd Maintenance Squadron fabrication flight tape the edges of McConnell’s KC-135 Stratotanker static display in the McConnell Air Park June 15, 2010, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan. The Airmen are preparing to repaint the 53 year old airframe. The KC-135 Stratotanker static was named the “City of Renton” because it was the first of 820 C-135 airframes to complete its first flight at Boeing’s Renton Field runway Aug. 31, 1956. The KC-135 Stratotanker “City of Renton” flew its last mission Oct. 15, 1996. This historical KC-135 static stands in silent respect for those who have flown and maintained this fleet of aircraft.
