"Doc" visits McConnell for Open House Air Show
MCCONNELL Air Force Base, Kan.-- “Doc” will be one of many static displays set up during the 2007 McConnell Open House Air Show July 14-15. The B-29 Superfortress “Doc,” named after the “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” tale, was built in Wichita in December 1944 and released for military use in 1945. The B-29 was said to be the most sophisticated, propeller-driven bomber to fly during World War II. McConnell’s Open House will also showcase several aerial demonstrations including the Navy Blue Angels and the Army Golden Knights. Blood Drive July 6
MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- Reva Barkley, a phlebotomist from a local chapter of the American Red Cross, draws blood from Maj. Melissa Pammer, 22nd Medical Support Squadron, during a blood drive July 6 in the fitness center gymnasium. One hundred and fourteen Team McConnell members came out to donate blood and 33 of them were first-time donators. As a result of the turnout, the Red Cross collected 86 units of blood, which is roughly 86 pints.
