Celebrating the holidays

McConnell Airmen and their families gather for the annual 22nd Air Refueling Wing tree lighting celebration at McConnell’s Air Park Dec.1, 2011, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan. This year’s tree lighting featured children from the school age program singing carols and a surprise visit from Santa Claus, who arrived on a fire truck. The tradition of Christmas tree lighting celebrations began in 1923, when President Calvin Coolidge established the National Christmas Tree at the White House.
