McConnell children make 'trashy' art

Team McConnell children’s artwork sits on a table outside the Robert J. Dole Community Center Ballroom April 22, 2011, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan. The children celebrated Earth Day 2011 by participating in a “Trashy Art Contest,” where all entries had to be made from at least 75 percent recyclable materials or items that would normally be thrown away. This event was part of the Live Green Program, which encourages people to reduce their carbon footprint, reuse the resources available and recycle. Air Force bases worldwide participated in a variety of Earth Day observances including beach, stream and base clean-ups, reusable bag and energy-efficient light bulb giveaways, art and writing contests and educational fairs.
