Members from the 22nd Maintenance Squadron fabrication flight tape the edges of McConnell’s KC-135 Stratotanker static display in the McConnell Air Park June 15, 2010, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan. The Airmen are preparing to repaint the 53 year old airframe. The KC-135 Stratotanker static was named the “City of Renton” because it was the first of 820 C-135 airframes to complete its first flight at Boeing’s Renton Field runway Aug. 31, 1956. The KC-135 Stratotanker “City of Renton” flew its last mission Oct. 15, 1996. This historical KC-135 static stands in silent respect for those who have flown and maintained this fleet of aircraft.
