Senior Airman Keegan Jarvis, 22nd Security Forces Squadron installation entry control guard, observes oncoming traffic at McConnell’s main gate, June 2, 2010, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan. Entry control guards are the first line of defense for the installation and the first contact visitors have with Team McConnell. The 22nd SFS provides security 24-hours a day, seven days a week for more than 14,000 personnel and assets up including the more than 8,000 vehicles that pass though entry control points daily. The 22nd SFS members work eight-hour shifts, not including two additional hours before and after shift change to issue, clean and return weapons and equipment. The 22nd SFS has approximately 160 active-duty members, more than 20 guardsmen and reservists on active duty orders and more than 15 civilians who provide security and patrol for McConnell.
