McConnell operators use machines like Braille Lite to write quick messages for themselves and others. New View Oklahoma, formerly the Oklahoma League for the Blind, currently holds the contract for the McConnell operators. According to the contract, 75 percent of the base operators must be legally blind. Operators must be able to type and know basic computer skills to work as a switchboard technician.
