One hundred and twenty Team McConnell Airmen donated blood May 14, 2010, during a Red Cross blood drive at McConnell’s fitness center, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan. Volunteers collected 110 pints of blood from the Airmen. McConnell Air Force Base has hosted blood drives for approximately 35 years. McConnell personnel have donated more than 21,000 units of blood since 1975. For every five units the Red Cross collects at a McConnell, one unit is donated to the Wichita Veteran Affairs. In addition to helping the community, the donations save the Department of Defense money. Since January, McConnell’s Airmen have donated 247 units of blood saving DoD more than $11,000. McConnell’s next blood drive is July 30. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Chyrece Campbell)
