First Term Airman's Center students render proper customs and courtesies April 6 during a Retreat ceremony at the Dole Center flag pole. Airmen are outside and in uniform during Retreat should face the flag, or the sound of music, and stand at the position of parade rest. Then, upon the first note of the national anthem, Airmen should snap to attention and salute. Airmen remain in this position until the last note or music sounds. People driving around base when Retreat begins to play should bring their vehicles to a complete stop and sit quietly at attention until the last note of music plays. Airman in civilian clothes who are on base and outdoors during Retreat, should stand at attention and place their right hands over their hearts upon the first note of the national anthem. Airmen in civilian clothes and wearing hats should hold their hats in their right hands over their hearts during the national anthem. (Photo by Airman 1st Class Jessica Lockoski)
