MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan.—Col. James C. Vechery, 22nd Air Refueling Wing commander, Lt. Gen. Vern M. “Rusty” Findley, Air Mobility Command vice commander, and Sharon Hamric, 22nd ARW public affairs, listen to Dr. Nicholas Carter, Principle Ecologist for the Birdstrike Control Program. Mr. Carter described to the group about the use of trained border collies to scare away birds from the McConnell runway area. A group of over 25 local landowners who allow McConnell access to their property for bird control, flew on a KC-135 for an orientation flight on April 24. The landowners were given a first-hand look at how they are helping to protect Team McConnell and their neighbors. (Photo by Tech. Sgt. Genevieve Morris)
