MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- Airman 1st Class Katie Callen, 22nd Maintenance Squadron aircraft structural craftsman, prepares to sand-blast items in preparation for painting, March 16. Airman Callen works in the fabrication flight painting, sandblasting and fixing metal structures on the aircraft here at McConnell. Airman Callen is one of three women in her shop. As early as the Revolutionary War, women served on the battlefield as nurses, water bearers, cooks, laundresses and saboteurs. Today, women make up nearly 20 percent of the Air Force. (Photo by Tech.
