Honorary commanders tour

MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- Col. James Vechery, 22nd Air Refueling Wing commander, right, and Darla Cooper, base library director, left, explain the services available at the base library to a group of honorary commanders and a Golden Eagle during an Honorary Commander Orientation Day, Aug. 1. Honorary commanders are civilian leaders whose civic positions mirror that of McConnell’s group and squadron commanders. Golden Eagles are honorary commanders who have demonstrated unparallel community support to McConnell. Representatives from both groups who attended the orientation witnessed a change of command ceremony; toured the medical clinic; had lunch at the dining facility; visited the Robert J. Dole Community Center and climbed aboard a KC-135 Stratotanker. (photo by Staff Sgt. Amanda Currier.)
