Titan II Missile Site SS012
The United States Air Force Civil Engineer Center, in coordination with the McConnell Air Force Base Defense Environmental Restoration Program and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, has begun the first Five-year Review for McConnell AFB Titan Sites, Titan II Missile Site SS012 (MS12). MS12 is located approximately 35 miles southwest of McConnell AFB in Sumner County, Kansas.

KC-46 performs first operational long-endurance flight
A KC-135 Stratotanker from Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington, flies over a McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas, KC-46A Pegasus in preparation for in-flight refueling, in the Indo-Pacific, Dec. 17, 2022. During in-flight refueling the KC-46A Pegasus was able to onload more than 100,000 pounds of fuel from the KC-135 Stratotanker, supporting long-range strike capabilities. Wichita’s Flying Brothers: where McConnell got its name
Anna McConnell pins pilot's wings on her three sons Fred, Edwin and Thomas. In 1954, Wichita Air Force Base was formally renamed to McConnell AFB in honor of Fred and Thomas, who both died while serving. A KC-46 Pegasus aircraft conducts air-to-air refuel operations with a C-17 Globemaster III, assigned to the 437th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Charleston, S.C., Sept. 9, 2020. The KC-46 is assigned to the 22nd Air Refueling Wing at McConnell Air Force Base, K.S.. The 437th aircrew conducted the refuel as a part of an off-station trainer, OST, while delivering a collectively protected CONNEX, CPC, to Osan Air Force Base, South Korea to be tested during the base’s exercise, “Fight Tonight.” The delivery of the CPC was PACAF/ A3’s number 1 priority.
